Gwin joins advertising staff

Helen Gwin is the newest member of the Commonwealth’s sales staff.

For Gwin, 27, a Greenwood native, this is her first job in sales.

Over the past week, she’s been getting to know the ropes, visiting advertisers with the help of sales representative Linda Bassie.

Youth food drive Sunday

Sunday’s 26th annual Youth CAN Make a Difference food drive is an opportunity for residents and young people to come together to help the needy.

Residents may donate non-perishable food items from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenwood Market Place or leave the items on their front porches from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday for pickup.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
