Tchula man shot at hospital

The Greenwood Police Department is investigating a pair of shootings, one of which left a Tchula man wounded.

Annual AgFest set for Tuesday

Celebrating the contributions of the agriculture community to Leflore County will again be the focus Tuesday at the third annual AgFest.

The event will be held at the Leflore County Civic Center, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with a catfish dinner catered by Larry’s Catfish House. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Banquet will honor 'heroes' next Friday

The Progressive Missionary Baptist State Convention of Mississippi will hold a banquet next Friday to honor “unsung heroes” who improve their communities.

The banquet will be at 7 p.m. at the Leflore County Civic Center. Tickets, which may be purchased at the door, are $15 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
