Diversity event to offer ‘Taste of Jamaica’

Bond set at $250,000 in slaying

Bond for a father charged in with first-degree murder in the Saturday shooting death of his son has been set at $250,000.

James Clay Jr., 70, 713 Broad St., has been charged in the death of 43-year-old Freddy Lee Clay. The homicide is the first in the city this year.

James Clay remained in the Leflore County Jail this morning.

Fond farewell

Former Greenwood Mayor Harry Smith was remembered with fondness Friday at a memorial service honoring his life.

The service was held at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity.

Mr Smith, 75, who served as Greenwood’s mayor from 1993 through 2006, died of cancer Tuesday at his home.
