Biblical scholar to speak

An accomplished Old Testament scholar will speak as part of a three-day event at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity beginning tonight.

The speaker will be Dr. Walter Brueggemann, a renowned biblical interpreter and author of more than 100 books and numerous articles.

Most of the snow early this morning in Greenwood was only sticking to vehicles, rooftops and bridge overpasses. A pickup truck crosses the Keesler Bridge into downtown Greenwood, as an unblemished layer of snow covers the wooden-plank walkway along the bridge.

Balloons to fly over city again

In June, hot air balloons will once again fly over Greenwood as a couple of entrepreneurs bring back a popular event.

James Gammill appeared before the Greenwood City Council to describe the Greenwood Balloon & Music Festival, which is scheduled for June 16-18 in Whittington Park.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
