City officials to travel to Washington

A four-member delegation from the city of Greenwood will leave Saturday for Washington with the hopes of securing federal dollars.

The group will include Mayor Carolyn McAd-ams, Ward 1’s Johnny Jennings, Ward 4’s Charles McCoy and Chief Administrative Officer Thomas Gregory.

“This is our sixth year to go,” McAdams said.

Joe Arnsperger, an employee of Welter Inc. of Sikeston, Missouri, operates a directional boring rig on Medallion Drive on Wednesday. The company is placing a fiber optic cable for C Spire. The rig digs the hole for the cable. Later, a conduit will be placed in the hole, and cables will be placed inside.

Crews working for C Spire have been busy placing fiber optic cables all over Greenwood for the past two weeks.

Crews hired through Welter Inc. of Sikeston, Missouri, are all over the city.

New city zoning map OK’d

The Greenwood City Council has approved a new zoning map for the city in response to citizen input.

The council approved a new zoning code in March 2015. Tuesday’s action by the council applies the new code to city’s existing geography.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
