Relay for Life raises nearly $8,000

Friday’s Leflore-Carroll Relay for Life helped to raise nearly $8,000 for the fight against cancer.

Dollinda Malone, the event’s leader, said 12 teams participated this year. The relay took place at the Leflore County Agri-Center beginning at 7 p.m. and concluding at midnight Saturday.

Saturday’s “Day of Dialogue” drew a large crowd to the Leflore County Civic Center. A panel discussion focused on the effects of racism and ways it can be countered. Among the panelists were, from left, the Rev. Michael Stewart, assistant pastor of Macedonia Church of God in Christ of Sidon; Greenwood Mayor Carolyn McAdams; and Dr. William Bynum, president of Mississippi Valley State University.
