13 teams register for Relay

Thirteen teams had signed up for Friday’s Relay for Life of Leflore County as of this morning, said Dollinda Malone, the event’s leader.

Relay will be at the Leflore County Agri-Center and will begin with a supper for cancer survivors at 5 p.m. Opening ceremonies will begin at 7 p.m.

Cancer fighters raise $500,000

The Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation has raised more than $500,000 for the construction of a new headquarters in Ruleville.

The goal is to raise $1.8 million for the facility, said Freddie White-Johnson, the founder and president of the foundation.

Greenwood businessman Roosevelt “Bo” Roach knows firsthand the value of hard work.

“I’ve been a working man all of my life,” said Roach, 72, the owner of Bo’s Bar-B-Q, located at 507 Carrollton Ave.

He is also the owner of Roach Transportation Service, a private charter bus operation.
