Conservator’s goal: Improve district

“When I come to work every day, I’m looking at ‘What can I do to support, to forward student achievement, and how can I support teachers and administrators in getting that work done?’” Richards said.

Council opposes HB 1523

The Greenwood City Council unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday that puts the city on record as opposing the state’s new “religious freedom” law.

United Way to kick off campaign

The United Way of Leflore County is preparing for Thursday’s Pacesetter Party, which kicks off the campaign for the next year.

The party will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the home of Courtney Kimmel, the chapter’s executive director, and her husband, Frank, at 1362 County Road 183.

CB&S Bank president to retire

Charles Wright has been in the banking business for a long time and has been heavily involved in making Greenwood the city that it is today.

On Thursday — his 65th birthday — Wright, the city president of CB&S Bank, will be honored with a retirement party from 4 to 6 p.m. at the bank, located at 820 W. Park Ave.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
