Two teens arrested in Vaiden robbery

CARROLLTON - Authorities are saying an armed robbery of the Stuckey's on Interstate 55 at Vaiden at 12:30 a.m. Sunday was apparently the work of two teen-agers from Georgia.

The teens, accused of taking $200 and $18 in gas, were arrested Wednesday in Marshall, Texas.

CARROLLTON - A father, son and friend were arrested on drug charges Friday by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.

Virgil R. Goasa Sr., his son, Virgil R. Goasa Jr., and a friend of the younger Goasa, Charles Dukes, were charged with the manufacture of crystal methamphetamines and conspiracy to manufacture crystal meth.

More file overtime lawsuits in Carroll Co.

CARROLLTON - Thirteen people have filed lawsuits in U.S. District Court in Greenville against the Carroll County School District, claiming the district owes them unpaid overtime wages.

Superintendent of Education Susan Murphy said the district received the group of lawsuits Tuesday. The first batch, composed of five, arrived Oct. 16.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
