Mayor: Hurricane cleanup going OK

Local post-hurricane cleanup has gone fairly well, but much work remains.

Mayor Harry Smith told the City Council on Tuesday that the city had received some valuable help from Leflore County with trash pickup. He said he hoped they would be caught up on that in a week or so.

Leflore loses scoring duel to Cowboys

The Leflore County Tigers fought hard in a close game against Humphreys County Friday night, but running back Roderick Washington eventually wore down the home team's defense as Humphreys won 34-30.

County's emergency declaration extended

A declaration of emergency because of Hurricane Katrina has been extended in Leflore County by another week.

Meanwhile, the Federal Emergency Management Agency plans to set up a station at Army Reserve headquarters on Airbase Road. Oscar Sanchez, at the headquarters, said today he did not know when FEMA will arrive.
