Kelly winds up work as ADA today

After three months as assistant district attorney in the circuit that includes Leflore County, George Kelly is on the move again.

Kelly has accepted a job with the Leland firm of McGee and Bogen and will begin work there Friday. Today is his last day in the circuit job, which he began March 1.

MVSU president says brighter days ahead

Anti-violence event set for July 4 at Civic Center

The Leflore County Recreation and Convention Board won approval Tuesday to co-sponsor an upcoming anti-violence event.

Dr. William Ware, chairman of the recreation board, made the request to the Leflore County Board of Supervisors concerning Stop the Violence 2001, which is scheduled for July 4.

Two men injured in accident

Two men were injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle collision on U.S. 82. A Coca-Cola truck, which was traveling west on U.S. 82, struck a Chevrolet that was traveling north on Humphrey Highway and turning onto U.S. 82.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
