Architect contract delayed for jail

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors voted Monday to delay the execution of a contract for architectural services for the proposed new jail.

Board Attorney Willie J. Perkins Sr. said he had questions about pay schedules, deadlines and some of the conditions in the contract.

Judge announces resignation

Fourth Circuit Judge Gray Evans has announced that he will retire at the end of the month after 19 years on the bench.

Evans tendered his resignation Thursday after meeting with Gov. Ronnie Musgrove about two weeks ago. The governor will appoint his successor.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
