Collins reviews ballots in Itta Bena mayor's race

Itta Bena Mayor Thelma Collins asked on Wednesday for more time to review the ballot boxes from the June 5 election.

Collins, who was running for her second term, was defeated by J.D. Brasel, 278-268. The Itta Bena Election Commission certified the results June 8.

Teens given second chance through Life Help program

Itta Bena's city clerk has agreed not to allow a recanvassing in the mayoral elections Friday after being advised by a candidate's attorney that a recount would violate state law.

J.D. Brasel defeated incumbent Thelma Collins, 278 votes to 268, in last week's election. The results were certified last Friday.

A recount will be held Friday morning for last week's Itta Bena mayoral election, which was decided by only 10 votes.

J.D. Brasel defeated incumbent Thelma Collins, 278 votes to 268, in the June 5 election. Collins requested the recount, and Brasel said Tuesday that he had received a letter inviting him to attend.
