The Greenwood Commonwealth collected 10 awards Saturday in the Mississippi Press Association’s annual Better Newspaper Contest.

The awards, honoring work published in 2017, were presented during the association’s annual convention, held this year jointly with the Louisiana Press Association in New Orleans.

Time-honored tradition

It’s a time-honored Leflore County Father’s Day tradition — picking blueberries at the Roebuck Plantation blueberry farm near Sidon.

That really has less to do with the Sunday honoring dads and more to do with the growing season. By mid-June, each year, the blueberries are ready for picking, and this year is no exception.
