Powers was man of many talents

Friends remember Greenwood entrepreneur, businessman, pilot and family man Harris F. “Buck” Powers as a gentleman who had many talents.

Mr. Powers died Wednesday at his home at the age of 92. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Lexington.

Impact of after-school program cuts unclear

Area school leaders are unclear exactly how much their after-school programs and budgets will be affected by a $19 million statewide shortfall in 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) funds caused by an oversight at the Mississippi Department of Education.
