Teen among 2 charged with murder

A Greenwood 15-year old is one of two persons who have been charged with murder in the death of Ralphfeal Bentonia Baines last week.

Jaquirus Tyshon Dorsey, also known as “Fat J,” will be prosecuted as an adult because of the seriousness of the Oct. 26 crime, according to authorities.

Greenwood’s Community Concert Band, directed by Russell Baxter, has added new players from Greenwood Middle School and Greenwood High School. The band is scheduled to play three holiday concerts in November and December.

Just a few months ago, the Greenwood Community Concert Band had to cancel its Fourth of July concert because of a lack of players.

Now, with the addition of some new musicians, the band that has played in Greenwood since 1947 has a good problem: It doesn’t have enough music stands.

West Nile case found in Carroll Co.

The Mississippi State Department of Health has reported four new cases of West Nile virus, including one in Carroll County.

That brings the total of West Nile cases in the state to 36, up from 20 just a little over a month ago. One confirmed case in Leflore County was reported earlier this year.

Hospital offering diabetes education

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
