State Garden Clubs meeting being held here

Greenwood Garden Club is hosting the 88th annual Garden Clubs of Mississippi convention today and Wednesday.

“That’s So Delta” is the theme of the event that brings together some 160 gardeners and club members from across the state. Meals and workshops will take place at the Greenwood Country Club today and Wednesday.

Home rehab funds have strings

Greenwood Funeral Home open

It took a little less than a year for Kenneth Thompson to build his newest business: Greenwood Funeral Home, located just next to the Exchange Club baseball complex on Sgt. John A. Pittman Drive.

The welcoming brick structure was the site of a ribbon-cutting on Sunday sponsored by the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce.

Artist and naturalist Robin Whitfield and Friends of Chakchiuma Swamp are celebrating the Grenada City Council’s recent unanimous decision to reject bids for a timber cut in the forest surrounding the swamp. The group is raising funds in hopes of securing a conservation easement on the area near downtown Grenada.

This April proved to be a fruitful Earth Month for the Friends of Chakchiuma Swamp in Grenada.

On April 11, the Grenada City Council voted to reject bids to cut and sell timber in an area of forest surrounding the mid-city swamp that has been the focus of conservation and fundraising efforts by the group of concerned citizens.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
