Pillow Academy will celebrate the graduation of 53 seniors today and Friday.

A baccalaureate ceremony will take place at the Craig Performing Arts Center on the Pillow campus at 6 tonight. The commencement ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the Leflore County Civic Center.

2 years later, toxic situation lingers

It’s been a little over two years since a train derailed and spilled a toxic chemical on farm land between Philipp and Minter City, and it still stinks, say the landowners.

Floyd Melton III, brother Moss Melton and their father, Floyd Melton Jr., all Greenwood attorneys, own 400 acres at the crash site affected by the spill.

Board honors longtime Leflore County resident

Leflore County supervisors on Monday honored the life of Lillian Marue Potter Tackett, who died on April 21 at the age of 92.

“Everyone here knows that the Tackett family and Ms. Marue have been an anchor in catfish and jobs in the county,” District 3 Supervisor Anjuan Brown said before reading a resolution honoring Mrs. Tackett.
