Public can view 2017 tax roll

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors on Monday voted to approve equalization of the 2017 tax roll, making it available for public inspection.

Property owners can discuss their appraised property values with his office, said county Tax Assessor Leroy Ware, and many have done so already.

Blues homecoming

Traditional bluesman Ben Wiley Payton’s grassroots have led him home to Greenwood.

Tonight he will play at the Grassroots Blues Festival at Duck Hill, and every Thursday night, he’ll be playing a regular gig at Joe’s Sports Place on Carrollton Avenue.

Plan offers subs path to permanent teacher jobs

Greenwood public school officials acted Thursday to pave the way for long-term substitute teachers to become permanent certified teachers.

In a special called meeting, the board of trustees approved a graduated pay scale for long-term substitutes who might be seeking renewable licenses and permanent teaching jobs.

Supervisors begin tax talks

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors on Wednesday began the process of real and personal property valuation and decisions about whether to decrease the mill levy on property taxes.

Tax Assessor Leroy Ware reported an increase in county real estate values for 2017 of $11.1 million.
