School district providing online instruction in language arts, math

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District is providing online summer learning opportunities in language arts and math for all students throughout this month.

Classes take place Mondays through Thursdays and feature assignments that teachers have created for students to complete online.

59 will graduate from Pillow Friday

Fifty-nine seniors will graduate from Pillow Academy beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at the Leflore County Civic Center.

The school had to postpone the ceremony due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The commencement will also be streamed live on YouTube for those unable to attend due to concerns with social distancing or prior conflicts.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
