Valley VP: ICE student rule is ‘serious blow’

Peaceful Itta Bena protest focused on equality, empowerment

About 60 people took part in a peaceful protest and voter registration drive held in Itta Bena over the weekend.

Led by Itta Bena native Andrias Lowe, residents marched on Saturday from the police station to Dorothy Street Park, where they were encouraged to register to vote and complete 2020 census forms.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
