The 13th annual Bikes, Blues & Bayous ride is this weekend, and people are ready to pedal.

Debra Ketchum, 63, from Granbury, Texas, will be traveling with her husband to the event, and she said she always looks forward to it.

“This will be our fourth year,” said Ketchum, who will participate in the 46-mile ride.

Family mourns shooting victim

Relatives of a 17-year-old killed in a shooting Monday say he was a good father to his daughter and had big plans for his future.

Devonyae Miles suffered multiple gunshot wounds Monday night while walking down Browning Road. The Leflore County Sheriff’s Department is investigating but has identified no suspects or possible motives.

Sales Tax Holiday

The 2020 Sales Tax Holiday, which starts Friday and runs through Saturday, has some Greenwood merchants eager to sell.

During that period, Mississippi’s 7% sales tax will not be added to the cost of articles of clothing, footwear or school supplies if the sales price of a single item is less than $100.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
