Drives to encourage census participation

Each of Leflore County’s five supervisor districts will host a drive to encourage residents to fill out their census surveys.

Robert Collins, president of the Leflore County Board of Supervisors, said at the board’s Monday meeting that there needs to be more of a push to convince residents to participate.

Greenwood Gravel Grind set to go Sept. 26

After a brief delay, the second annual Greenwood Gravel Grind is set for later this month.

Originally scheduled for April but delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the bike ride is now set for Sept. 26.

The event is hosted by the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce.

Podcast showcases Carrollton

The “Small Town Podcast” continued its four-episode series in Mississippi by visiting Carrollton to talk with Mayor Pamela Lee in its latest episode.

The podcast is an audio project in which small-town officials discuss their stories and the stories of their municipalities.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
