Coat drive brings warmth

A coat drive has brought warmth and comfort to local families in need.

On Friday, Alfonso Gray, organizer for the event, said he and several volunteers and members of the Greenwood Junior Auxiliary helped pass around 260 coats to Leflore County children in time to protect them against cold weather.

Market will highlight Black-owned businesses

A one-day market to highlight Black-owned businesses in the Greenwood area will be held Saturday.

“The Day After Black Friday Pop-up Shop” will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2315 Carrollton Ave.

Admission to the public is free, and there will be free food and door prize giveaways every hour.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
