Board approves $7,500 donation to Hamer foundation

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors approved a $7,500 donation to the Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation during its Monday meeting.

The foundation, a Ruleville-based organization that was started in 2004, is a nonprofit devoted to the eradication of cancer in the Mississippi Delta.

GHS Bulldogs to get rings

In March, the Bulldogs were crowned Class 4A state champions, earning the school its first state title in basketball.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
