Boil-water alert lifted for Cruger, will remain in some other towns

A boil-water alert has been lifted for the town of Cruger but will remain for some other residents of Holmes and Carroll counties.

On Friday, the Holmes County town of 479 was told that its water is now safe to drink and use.

Board discusses COVID-19 guidelines for sports

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board has received guidelines for the resumption of sports activities by teams from the district.

At a work session Wednesday, board members went over added COVID-19 rules for the return of teams in sports such as baseball, softball and track and field.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
