Some roads to close Tues. for TV filming

Several road closures are expected in Greenwood on Tuesday because of the continuing production of the television show “Women of the Movement.”

For what the crew is calling “a huge filming day in Greenwood,” the team is asking drivers to “please be advised and exercise patience with detours” as roads are closed throughout the city.

Runners are preparing to take their starting positions for the 2021 Viking Half Marathon & 5K, set for Saturday.

The event, put on by the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, offers two race options — a half marathon at 13.1 miles and a 5K at 3.1 miles.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
