Board pushes virus shots

As COVID-19 vaccination rates keep rising, Leflore County supervisors continue to advocate for all residents to get their shots.
At the board’s meeting Monday, Board President Reginald Moore said everyone in the county needs to get out and get vaccinated.

Restaurant opens at former location of winery

On Thursday, the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce welcomed a new restaurant downtown.
Valour Cobbins, the owner of Bread and Butter Shoppe on Howard Street, said she has big plans for the space, which is at the former site of The Winery at Williams Landing.

Sammy Foster says he wants to help create a safer and better Greenwood, so he is running for the Ward 4 seat on the City Council.
Foster, 60, an insurance agent, served on the Greenwood Leflore Hospital Board from 1998 until 2019. He will face the incumbent, 57-year-old Charles McCoy, in Tuesday’s Democratic primary.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
