CARROLLTON — Roger Gordon's first game as head football coach at Carroll Academy was almost over as soon as it began.

An overflow crowd was still filing into Carroll Academy's stadium on Friday night when Winona Christian's Jon Morgan Carpenter took the opening kickoff and ran it back 80 yards for a touchdown.

Cybercriminal can’t spell

The first time, somebody swiped my credit card number and used it to buy merchandise online. The second time, somebody hijacked my e-mail account.

What’s happened to incident reports?

On Tuesday, two women were the victims of strong-arm robbery. In both cases, the women had just left a bank. A man waved for them to pull over. When they did, the man told the women that their car had a mechanical problem. Then he grabbed their purses and fled. In one case, he pushed down an 85-year-old woman, leaving her bruised.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
