Remembering ‘The Reivers’

If you stay up late on Wednesday night, you can watch one of the biggest movies filmed in this area, the 1969 comedy “The Reivers.” Turner Classic Movies will show the film, much of which was shot in Carroll County and Greenwood, at 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Dropout numbers no secret to schools

Last Friday, the Commonwealth reported the Greenwood Public School District had a dropout rate of 39.4 percent in 2009, the second-highest rate in the state.

On Tuesday, Greenwood School Superintendent Margie Pulley had a very curious reaction to that news.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
