The adaptable ‘Coach K’

You don’t have to be a fan of college basketball to appreciate what Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski did the other night in a tense NCAA Tournament game.
You don’t even have to be a fan of the man whom most people refer to as “Coach K” because of the difficulty of pronouncing, much less spelling, his Polish surname.

Author discusses devastating impact of addiction on family

David Magee lost one son to an accidental drug overdose, and another nearly died from the same. His daughter developed a severe eating disorder in high school.
Magee himself got hooked for a while on the stimulant Adderall, and his wife filed for divorce partly as a result of it.

Maybe Philip Gunn was just being theatrical this past week when Mississippi’s speaker of the House said it was now or never to pass sweeping tax cuts.
The statement — “This is the opportunity to do something right now that we will never have again in our lifetimes” — was farcical, though.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
