Leflore County has two more COVID-19 deaths

Leflore County has experienced two more deaths from COVID-19, bringing its total up to six.

After a week’s lull in which the county had experienced no deaths, the two deaths were included in 13 statewide that the Mississippi State Department of Health reported Tuesday in its latest update.

COVID-19 reaches second Greenwood nursing home

One resident of a Greenwood nursing home has died after contracting COVID-19, and another is currently hospitalized with the respiratory illness.

Two employees at Crystal Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center also have tested positive for the new coronavirus and are at home recovering, the company said.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
