Director working to make museum more interactive

The COVID-19 pandemic has delayed but not derailed the Museum of the Mississippi Delta’s strategy to make itself more interactive.

Anything that could be touched by human hands, for the time being, has been closed or taken up so as to reduce the chance of transmitting the virus.

Carolyn McAdams says it’s hard to imagine what it was like in 1895 when the first lights were turned on in Greenwood.

“It had to have been a glorious moment,” said the mayor, one of several called on to speak Monday to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the introduction of electricity to the city.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
