Health coverage costs have big impact on city budget

The increased cost of paying full health insurance for Greenwood city employees will be an important topic throughout the upcoming fiscal year, Mayor Carolyn McAdams said Tuesday.
Health insurance premiums rose from $420 per employee per month to $670, the mayor said.
That equates to almost $600,000 a year in additional costs.

Black Lives Matter to hold cleanup Aug. 28

Black Lives Matter Greenwood has scheduled its second monthly cleanup of the year for Aug. 28 in the area of 2nd Avenue and 3rd Avenue.
The cleanup will be held from 9 a.m. to noon. Those interested in volunteering are asked to meet in the parking lot of Family Dollar at 700 Mississippi 7. Water and breakfast will be provided.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
