The owners of Highland Park Laundromat say they plan to plant their roots firmly in Greenwood.

Husband and wife Jackie and Angela Sims recently added Highland Park to a collection of businesses that includes Sims Realty and Development and Sims and Rice Heating and Air and Refrigeration.

Speakers stress need to register, vote

The Itta Bena Voters League took to the park Saturday to register the citizens of Itta Bena to vote.

“We want to make sure everyone that is eligible to vote has the opportunity to come out and vote,” Viola McCaskill, president of the Itta Bena Voters League said.

Special Olympics boost confidence, self-esteem

Volunteers and participants alike were glad to see the sunshine with a cool breeze Thursday for the Special Olympics held at Mississippi Valley State University.

Preston Ratliff, the assistant director of the local Special Olympics region, said this event gives many people opportunities they may not have had before.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
