City schools to start cosmetology program

The Greenwood Public School District is taking steps to start a cosmetology program for vocational students.

At Tuesday’s school board meeting, Superintendent Margie Pulley recommended the board approve a motion to submit an application to the Mississippi State Board of Cosmetology. The board voted to do so.

Fundraiser set for grounded Jones brothers

Only months after a plane crash stopped Jeff Jones from flying, his brother, Jimmy Jones, who handled the business side of Midway Air, suffered his second stroke.

A benefit for the Jones brothers will be held Friday at the Tallahatchie Tavern starting at 6 p.m.

Balkamp wants to buy building

On the way out of Leflore County, Balkamp is attempting to purchase the building they have leased for 30 years in the Greenwood-Leflore Industrial Park.

Hiram Eastland III, a Greenwood attorney representing Balkamp, said the company would like to buy the property for $1,000 as originally written in the lease.
