Value of property in county falls by $2.6M

The assessed value of property in Leflore County fell by more than $2.6 million in the past year.

The total assessed value of Leflore County, according to the 2010 Real and Personal Property Rolls, was $232,743,643.

Board squabbles over Sidon street

A small street in Sidon become a major issue Wednesday morning with the Leflore County Board of Supervisors.

District 5 Supervisor Robert Collins made a motion to pledge help to the City of Sidon to fix School Street, a heavily damaged road.

Plans unveiled for new Unit System building

Plans for renovation of a new building for the Leflore County Unit System are under way.

John Beard of Beard + Riser Architects, PLLC, presented an initial sketch of the renovations of the building to the Board of Supervisors Wednesday morning.

“It’s a large, large metal building with just a dirt floor,” Beard said.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
