Leflore County supervisors vote against bond issue

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors voted against a $2.3 million bond issue on Monday, citing a lack of specific details about how it would be used.

The board voted down the General Obligation Bond Series 2009 in a 3-2 vote. District 2 Supervisor Robert Moore, District 1’s Phil Wolfe and District 3’s Preston Ratliff voted no.

Farmers, employers invited to meeting

Increasing jobs, businesses and growing vegetables will be the subjects of a meeting Thursday in Itta Bena.

The Valley Community Development Corp. will host a “Partnerships Development Brunch” beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Elite Concepts at the Valley Apartment Complex, 36901 County Road 507, Itta Bena.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
