Banks: Number of suspicious fires rising

Greenwood Fire Chief Marcus Banks says his department is noticing an increase in suspicious fires in the area over the past two years.

One such fire was reported Monday, when firefighters found a 1993 Ford Mustang engulfed in flames at 2201 Carrollton Ave.

High-speed chase ends in 2 arrests

2 West Nile cases found in county

Two cases of humans infected with West Nile virus have been detected in Leflore County this summer.

Both cases were reported in adults. The discovery of these two cases raises the state total to three confirmed cases of West Nile this year.

The first case was found in Coahoma County.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
