Architect for new school chosen — in 2023

Representatives of three Jackson-area architectural firms made presentations concerning designs for a new high school during a Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School Board work session last week.

Board appoints Gary interim circuit clerk

Johnny Gary Jr. is Leflore County’s new interim circuit clerk and he is aiming to make the position permanent.
“I am so excited,” Gary said from his desk at the Circuit Clerk’s Office Tuesday. The timing, he said, is important because he will be running for circuit clerk in November’s general election.

Thursday concert to feature blues, Americana

This one — the fifth in the nonprofit cooperative’s second season — will start at 7 p.m. when the Delta String Band from Greenville starts strumming.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
