Memorial service for Loggins set Saturday

CARROLLTON - The Committee for Equal Justice will hold a memorial service, neighborhood clean-up and a fund-raiser barbecue Saturday in Carrollton and North Carrollton.

Leflore native, Jack Kyle, will receive Germany's highest honor

Herniated disks and a pinched nerve had Jack Kyle laid out at his parents' home near Minter City when he found out Germany wanted to bestow on him one of its highest honors.

Kyle will receive the "Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany" during ceremonies Thursday at Belhaven College in Jackson.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
