Secretary of State's Office: Ballots that lack postage will still be delivered

Is it legal for Leflore County to help with postal fees for mailed ballots that would be returned by the U.S. Postal Service because of insufficient postage?
The answer, according to the Mississippi Secretary of State’s Office, is that the Postal Service won’t send the ballots back.

Learn to sew: Adult class series starts Monday

Sewing teacher and professional seamstress Jackqulin Buchanan has been teaching young folks how to design and sew clothing in “Project Runway” at ArtPlace Mississippi since June.
Now, she’s adding a course for adult men and women that will start Monday. All grownups are invited to sign up for “Project Runway for Adults.”

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
