Mississippi Symphony performs for students

At one point during the Mississippi Symphony’s performance Thursday to 800 elementary school students, the orchestra began to play “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
And, a chorus of young voices in the audience apparently spontaneously added their own voices to the music being played.

Supervisors approve more employee raises

The Leflore County Board of Supervisors authorized more pay raises for employees Monday in a 4-1 vote with District 1 Supervisor Sam Abraham objecting.
The board met in executive session to discuss the increases, but the vote was cast in open session.

Christmas event Dec. 14 to feature Dickens theme

Downtown. Delta. Dickens. What the dickens does that mean?
Well, Greenwood’s getting another alliterative event.
This one, which has a similar ring to Driving the Delta (this Saturday’s car show on Howard Street), is called A Delta Dickens. It is shaping up for 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 14 on Howard Street.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
