Giving blood

People stood in line on West Washington Street Thursday to make life-saving donations to Mississippi Blood Services.

One of them was Kelly Moor of Greenwood, a surgical nurse at Greenwood Leflore Hospital who waited in scrubs for her turn to give.

She said her blood type is that of a universal donor.

3 graduation exercises to be held outside Civic Center

The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District will hold commencement ceremonies outside the Leflore County Civic Center later this month.

Graduates will receive their diplomas from a stage to be erected within the center’s covered front entrance, but no one will enter the building.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
