A pair of billboards posted along U.S. 82 definitely surprised the high school graduates they honor: Alfonzo Morris and Robyn Collins.

Collins said she was on her way to work at the Sonic Drive-In around 11 a.m. Sunday when she noticed a photo of herself on an electronic billboard beside Shell Rapid Lube.

Financial penalty against lawyer upheld

The Mississippi Court of Appeals has upheld a Leflore County Circuit Court judgment that financially sanctioned Grenada attorney Carlos Moore for failure to appear in court for a medical malpractice trial.

Soon, St. Francis parish will no longer have Franciscan sisters living and working there. Scheduled to leave before August are, from the left, Sisters Kathleen Murphy, Maria Goretti Scandaliato and Janet Rose. The Catholic parish will bid them farewell from cars between 1 and 3 p.m. Saturday.

Sisters to be saluted

A parade of thank-yous will be said Saturday at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church as its parishioners and friends bid farewell to the Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity.

Leaving the parish will be Sisters Janet Rose, Kathleen Murphy and Maria Goretti Scandaliato, whose order has served the parish and the community since 1997.

Leflore County sticking with curfew

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
