The Amy Coleman era ended at Pillow Academy after a spectacular four-year coaching run.

Following a shocking home upset loss in the Academy AAAA Division II quarterfinals to Starkville Academy, Coleman met with Pillow Academy headmaster Rodney Brown two days later and announced her intention to retire.

EPIC WIN: Lady Mustangs claim state title in PK shootout

Pillow Academy won its first girls state soccer championship in 14 years, notching an epic 7-6 victory over Hartfield Academy Saturday in a penalty kick shootout full of drama and not for the weak-hearted.

The win avenged three straight one-goal losses in state championship games over the last three years.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
