Man charged in cousin's shooting

An Itta Bena man has been charged with aggravated assault in the late-night shooting of his cousin, according to the Leflore County Sheriff’s Department.

Christopher Terrell Cross, 30, 600 County Road 362, remained in Leflore County Jail this morning.

Leflore County’s jobless rate rose to 13.5 percent last month, but that’s largely due to seasonal factors. Overall, the employment picture continued to improve compared to a year ago, according to figures released today by the Mississippi Department of Employment Security.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
