Mumme brothers big part of Carroll athletics

CARROLLTON — Carroll Academy's varsity basketball team has the unusual distinction of having not two, but three brothers as members of the 2011 squad.

Doug Mumme, a sophomore, Jeremy Mumme, a junior, and Nick Mumme, a senior, play together on the Rebel hoops team.

Frank and Gayle Kendall, left, Brandi Avant and Magnolia Collins enjoy open house at Long’s Flowers and Gifts in North Carrollton. The Kendalls, who own Long’s in Grenada, decided to open a second shop in North Carrollton after they returned to Carroll County to live about a year ago. Avant will staff the shop on Thursday and Friday, and Frank Kendall will work on Saturday. Gayle Kendall will work at both shops.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
