NORTH CARROLLTON — After having owned a well-known flower shop in Grenada — Long’s Flowers and Gifts — for 13 years, Gayle and Frank Kendall decided to add a satellite shop in North Carrollton.
The shop is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with Brandi Avant running it on Thursday and Friday and Frank taking over on Saturday. It is located downtown near People’s Bank and Anderson’s Pharmacy.
Long’s in North Carrollton is a full service flower shop, offering fresh and silk flower arrangements, as well as gift and decorative items, balloons and stuffed animals. “We do weddings, funerals and all occasions,” Kendall said.
In addition to green plants and fresh flowers, the shop carries Haversham candles and fashion and handmade jewelry. There is also a line of books for many occasions, including Southern Flavors cookbooks, desk calendars and a variety of other books.
Long’s delivers in the Carrollton-North Carrollton area as well as to Winona or Greenwood, Kendall said.
The Kendalls moved to Carrollton from Grenada in September of 2009 but have continued to run the Grenada shop. Gayle Kendall decided she wanted to open a shop in the Carrollton area.
“I wanted to be able to service Frank’s hometown. He was born and raised here,” Gayle said.
Gayle has been in the flower business for 28 years and has a degree in floral arrangement. It’s something she loves to do.
“I was out of it for three years and was not happy,” she said. “I had to go back.”
“It’s my life. I love being creative,” she explained. “I love serving the public and making people happy.”
