Carroll Co. must build unit for inmate workers

VAIDEN — If Carroll and Montgomery counties want to continue to use inmate labor, they must build a separate unit to house these inmate workers, supervisors learned recently.

Consultant Irb Benjamin of Mississippi Correctional Management told the board such a unit is required.

27 qualify to run in Carroll

Twenty-seven candidates have qualified in the county thus far. The deadline is March 1.

Judge: Funds available for AV equipment

CARROLLTON — Audiovisual equipment can be easily installed in Carroll County’s two courthouses, and money is available to pay for it, Circuit Judge Clarence Morgan told supervisors Monday.

Morgan had asked the supervisors to allow installation of such equipment at a previous meeting, and they agreed.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
